Accreditation
At Emory, Susan guided university-wide efforts across two cycles of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). In the first, she led data efforts that introduced a more efficient way to provide institutional research representing a major research university. By drawing on resources in various administrative offices to cover many routine needs, her office developed the capacity
to conduct strategic studies that leaders used to advance the institution.
In the second routine review, she designed and led the strategic portion of the SACS process, meeting the accreditation requirements while also foregrounding the faculty's role in determining how the university's research mission could be strengthened.
In the last decade, she has also served on numerous visiting SACS'
for large and small institutions. Typically, she reviews institutional effectiveness and how the institution's board and other constituencies plan for the future and evaluate progress toward their goals.
